A man in Belgium was thought to be in a coma for the past 23 years, but really he was just paralyzed and unable to communicate with his doctors.
They call it “locked in.” You can hear, see and think, but your inability to respond to anything leads to a vegetative state diagnosis. The patient is basically trapped in their own body.
